The existing products were continually improved, and new solutions added to broaden the scope towards advanced image processing and visualization. The user community grew in parallel, exceeding a base of 120 installations in 2005. Several reselling agreements were undersigned to structure the availability of PMOD on different scanner platforms and in local countries.
2003
During 2003 the project had reached a size that surpassed the capabilities of a research project, and PMOD Technologies was established as a Zürich University spin-off company.
1999
In 1999, kinetic and pixelwise modeling were stable tools. As Java applications they ran on various computer platforms and worked with the data of different manufacturers. The feedback at presentations and from international collaborations encouraged us to make PMOD available for a license fee. Since then, the user community as well as the functionality have continually grown.
1993
The roots of PMOD date back to 1993, when the first PET scanner was installed in the Zurich University Hospital. It soon became apparent that it was difficult to process the data of research studies appropriately. There existed some software packages developed at the cutting-edge research institutions, but they were not aimed at widespread use in heterogeneous environments by novice users. An in-house programming project was therefore started with the aim to build a comprehensive processing software environment for the analysis of PET research studies. During the years, PMOD evolved into a workhorse capable of supporting a PET researcher in many data analysis tasks.
