Supported Platforms
Currently, the full functionality of the PMOD modules is offered on three platforms:
- Windows Operating Systems starting from Windows 2000
- Linux
- MacOSX
Maintenance and Compatibility
PMOD is based on the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) which evolves over time. Experience has shown that updates of the JRE may introduce backwards compatibility problems in the operation of PMOD. PMOD Technologies will react to such situations and provide a new build of the current release which can be freely downloaded using he customer's support login on the PMOD website.
However, prior versions of PMOD will not be fixed. Therefore we recommend that the user of older PMOD versions do not upgrade their JRE.
Performance
Please note that the performance of PMOD is crucially dependent on the
- CPU clock: Java performance increases approximately linearly with the CPU clock; a better internal organization of a CPU usually does not compensate a higher clock rate.
- RAM: As a Java application, the memory footprint of PMOD is relatively big. As soon as the operating system needs to begin swapping the memory of PMOD, the performance drops drastically. Therefore, the installed RAM should be minimally 1.5 GB, 2 GB and above is recommended.
- Operating system: To process large data sets it is mandatory to use 64-Bit operating systems. With 32-Bit systems, the RAM available to PMOD is limited to <2GB, and in practice only about 1.2-1.5GB can be used.
